Ased Ali
Mr (Dr) Ased Ali is the founder of Yorkshire Urology and a Consultant Urological Surgeon at Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust. He specialises in functional and reconstructive urology, with particular expertise in cystitis and recurrent urinary tract infection (including biofilm-related infection), urinary incontinence, pelvic floor dysfunction, and urinary symptoms arising from bladder and neurological conditions.
Alongside his NHS clinical practice, Mr Ali undertakes medico-legal work as an expert witness in urology. He provides independent, evidence-based reports for both Claimant and Defendant instructions, addressing issues of causation, condition and prognosis, and the impact of urological injury or disease on daily function and quality of life. His practice commonly involves urological sequelae following trauma (including road traffic accidents), neurological injury (including spinal injury and cauda equina-type presentations), postoperative complications, and complex lower urinary tract dysfunction. He is experienced in addressing sensitive areas such as continence, catheter dependence, urinary symptoms, and sexual function in a professional and clear manner.
Mr Ali trained in Manchester and completed surgical training in the Northwest of England, with Higher Urological Training in Yorkshire and the Northeast. He undertook part of his sub-specialty training in Female Urology and Urogynaecology at Duke University (North Carolina, USA) and at The Centre for Pelvic Floor at The University of British Columbia (Vancouver, Canada). He completed a Royal College of Surgeons–approved fellowship in Female Urology and Reconstructive Surgery at the Freeman Hospital, Newcastle upon Tyne.
He trained as both a surgeon and a scientist, gaining a PhD in Immunology, and has a strong academic background with national funding awards from organisations including the Medical Research Council (MRC), Wellcome Trust, National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) and Wellbeing of Women. He is a member of the Medical Advisory Panel for Bladder Health UK (the largest UK charity for bladder problems), a trusted expert for Netmums, and serves as President of the Yorkshire and Humberside Urostomy Association.
Mr Ali is a Fellow of The Royal College of Surgeons of England (RCSEng), member of the European Association of Urology (EAU), American Urological Association (AUA) and British Association of Urological Surgeons (BAUS) where he was also a former elected member of the executive committee of the Section of Female, Neurological and Urodynamic Urology.
