How to instruct

If you would like to instruct Mr (Dr) Ased Ali for a medico-legal report, please email or use the enquiry form and include the details below. You will receive a prompt response confirming scope, availability, estimated timescales, and fees.

Step 1, Initial enquiry (recommended information)

Please include:

  • Case reference and the instructing firm

  • A brief summary of the issues (for example: causation, standard of care, condition and prognosis, urinary/sexual function, future treatment needs)

  • Defendant/Claimant instruction (or joint)

  • Deadlines (Part 35 timetable, conference date, joint statement date, trial date if known)

  • Records volume (approximate pages) and whether they are indexed and paginated

  • Whether an examination is required, and the proposed location

Step 2, Letter of Instruction

A clear Letter of Instruction helps ensure the report addresses what the Court and parties need. Helpful items include:

  • The specific questions to be answered

  • Any agreed documents list and key pleadings

  • Chronology, schedules, and relevant witness statements (if available)

  • Any expert evidence already served in other disciplines that you would like considered

Step 3, Disclosure bundle format

Please provide records as:

  • A single PDF, indexed and paginated where possible

  • Separate files are acceptable if clearly labelled (GP, hospital, imaging, labs, therapy, etc.)

If the bundle is not indexed, it can still be reviewed, but it may affect timescales and cost.

Step 4, Scope confirmation and fees

On receipt of the initial enquiry, you will receive confirmation of:

  • Whether the issues fall within scope

  • Whether an examination is required

  • Expected timescales

  • Fees and any assumptions (records volume, complexity, urgency)

Step 5, After the report

Mr Ali is available for:

  • Written questions (CPR Part 35)

  • Conferences with counsel

  • Joint statements

  • Court attendance when required

Fees & Terms Summary

Fees are charged on an hourly basis (and any minimum fee is confirmed on instruction), based on scope, complexity, urgency, and records volume.

Before work starts, you will receive written confirmation of scope, timescales, and the charging basis.

Conferences, addenda, joint statements, and court attendance are charged separately and agreed in advance. Short-notice cancellations may be chargeable depending on notice given and work already undertaken.

Full terms can be provided on request.

Conflicts and independence

All instructions are subject to a conflicts check. Reports are prepared independently with the overriding duty to the Court.
